Code: 101

Nomenclature: Crl:CD (SD)

Strain Origin:

In 1925, Robert W. Dawley crossed a hybrid male and a female Wistar rat, resulting in this strain.

In 1950, Charles River Laboratories introduced this strain from Sprague Dawley Inc., establishing the Charles River SDTM strain.

In 1955, a cesarean section was performed to establish the current CD core group.

In 1991, 8 populations were selected from this core group to form the IGS (International Genetic Standard) foundation population.

In 1997, a cesarean section derived an isolator-bred population, designated Crl:CD(SD)IGS.

✈ In 1999, Vital River introduced the core group of this strain from Charles River.

✈ In 2004, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2024, Vital River reintroduced the core group multiple times to maintain the global uniformity of the CD strain characteristics.

*IGS: The breeding of laboratory animals conforms to Charles River's International Genetic Standard (IGS).
