Strain Origin:

Vital River introduced C57BL/6 mice from the National Rodent Laboratory Animal Seed Center twice, in April 2015 and June 2018. To distinguish it from our existing C57BL/6N substrain, and in accordance with rodent nomenclature principles, we named this C57BL/6 strain C57BL/6Cnc.

*Cnc is the unique laboratory code of the National Rodent Laboratory Animal Seed Center, recognized by the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research.

On February 1, 2019, the China National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) standardized the nomenclature of various commonly used strains. The name of the C57BL/6 strain was updated to C57BL/6JNifdc. To align with the nomenclature of the introducing institution, we changed the name of C57BL/6Cnc to C57BL/6JNifdc on January 1, 2020.

Vital River has also introduced the core group of this strain multiple times from the National Seed Center in 2021 and 2022.

Research Applications: General multi-purpose model; metabolic studies (diet-induced obesity research, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease model); genetic research, genetically modified models; drug safety and pharmacodynamics testing; immunology, neurology, and behavioral studies.

Characteristics:

• Good breeding performance, long lifespan, and low susceptibility to tumors.
• Susceptible to diet-induced obesity, highly sensitive to type II diabetes and atherosclerosis.
• Hair loss and dermatitis are characteristic of the C57BL/6 strain, sometimes developing into ulcerative dermatitis.
• T lymphocyte surface antigen: CD45.2
• High probability of microphthalmia and other related eye abnormalities.
• Hereditary hydrocephalus (early reports indicate 1%-4%).
