In 1926, Dr. Clara Lynch of the Rockefeller Institute introduced these mice.

In 1948, the Cancer Research Institute of Philadelphia used "Swiss" mice bred by the Rockefeller Institute to develop the Hauschka Ha/ICR strain, which was then introduced to the Roswell Park Memorial Institute by Dr. Edward Mirand and named HaM/ICR.

In 1959, it was introduced to Charles River and named Crl:CD1(ICR).
